Notice of Availability Final Environmental Impact Statement

NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Housing Program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio Pursuant to Section 102(2)(c) of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as implemented by the Council on Environmental Quality Regulations (40 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1500-1508), the United States Air Force (USAF) announces the availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (Final EIS) for the Housing Program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio. Currently, 100 homes remain in the USAF inventory at WPAFB. These include ten homes on Yount Drive built in 1975, 89 homes built in 1934 1937 that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and managed as the Brick Quarters Historic District (BQHD), and the NRHP-eligible Foulois House, constructed in 1874. Action alternatives include options to construct new, convey to a private developer, lease, renovate, and/or demolish current government-owned housing units at WPAFB, including housing units eligible for the NRHP. Alternative 2 has been identified as the Air Force's preferred alternative in the Final EIS. Alternative 2 includes continued government ownership and renovation of key and essential (K&E) leader housing and demolition of remaining housing units. At this time, the Air Force intends to implement the first phase of Alternative 2, specifically renovation of 30 historic units incorporating renovation concepts as described under that alternative, with renovation of up to 20 additional K&E leader housing units as described under Alternative 3. Before any decision is made to demolish BQHD units, the Air Force would conduct additional consultation to resolve adverse effects that would occur to the historic properties. Under the No Action Alternative, the Air Force would continue to own and maintain the housing units at WPAFB and house its military members, including K&E personnel in government-owned housing on Yount Drive, in the Foulois House, and within the BQHD.
