The Oakland Residential Historic District in Middletown, Butler

The Oakland Residential Historic District in Middletown, Butler County will be considered by the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register was created by Congress in 1966 by the National Historic Preservation Act (P.L. 89-665) to identify prehistoric and historic properties of local, state, or national significance worthy of preservation. The historic district is roughly bounded by 1st Ave, Richmond St, Garfield St, Calumet Ave, Parkview Ave, Grove St, Woodlawn Ave, and Curtis St. Listing in the National Register provides the following benefits: Consideration in planning for federally assisted projects. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation must be given an opportunity to comment on projects affecting such properties. Eligibility for federal tax benefits. Public Law 115-97 contains provisions intended to encourage the preservation of depreciable historic structures by allowing favorable tax treatments for rehabilitation. Qualification for federal grants-in-aid whenever funds are appropriated by Congress. Owners of private property nominated to the National Register are given an opportunity to concur or object to the nomination in accord with the National Historic Preservation Act Amendments of 1980 and federal regulation 36 CFR Part 60. Any owner or partial owner of private property who objects to listing must submit a notarized statement certifying that the party is the sole or partial owner of the property and is objecting. Address letters to Amanda Terrell, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, 800 E. 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211. Each owner or partial owner has one vote regardless of how many whole or partial properties that party owns. If a majority of the owners object to the listing of a nominated district, the district will not be listed. If a district cannot be listed, the State Historic Preservation Officer shall submit the nomination to the Keeper of the National Register for a determination of eligibility for inclusion in the National Register. If the property is determined eligible but not formally listed, the Advisory Council, must still be given an opportunity to comment on federal projects that may affect the district. An online public webinar will be held on Thursday, August 18, 1:00 p.m. A representative of the State Historic Preservation Office will discuss the National Register nomination program and process, and answer questions.
